LION FISH

In this underwater photography art project, the lionfish takes center stage, chosen for its hot, fiery appearance that contrasts beautifully with the cool, fluid environment of water. The photographs explore a dynamic interplay of contrasts and vivid colors.

The lionfish is a particularly magnificent fish that can blend in well within the thickets of a coral reef. With over 20 known species, most lionfish are venomous but not lethal, using their venom purely for self-defense.

Austrian artist Lena Edlinger adds a unique dimension to this project by embodying the lionfish herself. Known for her work as a painter and visual artist, Edlinger transformed into a living canvas, with intricate makeup designs that required constant retouching during the shoot.
