Golden Night

In this experimental underwater photography project my model and I delved into the depths of the cold, dark water to capture the beauty of the queen of the night. With an intuitive and experimental approach I worked with golden and silver materils, and different artificial lights to create these images.

Beside illuminating the darkness, I played with long and short exposures to capture the fluidity of the movements. Later, on the computer,  I experimented with composition and colours.

I  quickly improvised a dress in golden and silver for that underwater shooting and used a black background to let the model stand out, like most performers do who work in the hours of the night.

The result was a series of images that evoke a sense of mystery, elegance and enchantment. Some pictures make me think of a James Bond movie intro, some of a dancer of a classical ballet or opera and some of a showgirl from Las Vegas.

They all have one thing in common, the beauty of glitter in the darkness of the night. It makes me think and give gratitute to all performing artists who give thier precious time in life to entertain us, mesmerize us with glitter and shine.

Somehow the photographs make me think of show girls, loud music, dancing in night clubs, drugs and lights of big cities after dawn.

Anyone remembering the touching movie scene in Forest Gump using that song, free bird by Lynyrd Skynyrd?
