LION FISH
In this underwater photography art project, the lionfish takes center stage, chosen for its hot, fiery appearance that contrasts beautifully with the cool, fluid environment of water, a contrast that also resides within us. Showing female power and coolness at the same time. The photographs explore a dynamic interplay of contrasts and vivid colors.
The lionfish is a particularly magnificent fish that can blend in well within the thickets of a coral reef. With over 20 known species, most lionfish are venomous but not lethal, using their venom purely for self-defense.
Austrian artist Lena Edlinger adds a unique dimension to this project by embodying the lionfish herself. Known for her work as a painter and visual artist, Edlinger transformed into a living canvas, with intricate makeup designs that required constant retouching during the shoot.
